Our drawing club book this week was 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. We took part in lots of problem solving tasks this week by trying to build different types of bridges that would hold either ourselves or different toys around the room. We made puppets to retell the story and made our own story books too. We enjoyed lots of time outside this week in the sunshine and have started noticing lots more signs of spring. We painted spring flowers and also made our own blossom to go on our woodland wander display board.
On Monday we found some sparkly beans on the carpet. Our book for drawing club was Jack and the Beanstalk so some children thought they might be magic beans and decided to plant them. The next morning a small shoot had appeared. We wrote signs to keep it safe and the next morning we were shocked to find that the beanstalk had grown through the ceiling and there were 2 enormous footprints on the floor. We decided to make warning posters to put around the school and began measuring the footprints. This week was also Science Week where as a whole school we looked at 'Change and Adapt'. We measured all of children in the class and then worked out the average height and made a cardboard child that size. On Friday each class took their child into assembly so we could compare and talk about how they have changed over time. On Friday we also learnt about and celebrated Holi, with dancing and colourful powder throwing. We went home very colourful ourselves!
This week we learnt about Shrove Tuesday and Lent. We read 'Me Wolf's pancakes' in drawing club and wrote shopping lists of what toppings we would like on our pancakes. We made pancakes and then voted for our favourite topping. In the outside area we had a go at seeing how high we could flip our pancakes and also had some pancakes races.
We started the term by reading 'The Jolly Postman' during drawing club. Our homecorner had been changed into a post office and we got busy, wrapping parcels and writing letters to post. We thought about the journey the Jolly Postman did and made maps to show this. We painted pictures of our own houses and thought about the numbers on our doors which help the post worker know where to deliver our post.
