Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day

Term 2

It has been maths week and we have been surrounding ourselves with all things number.  We started the week by going on a numberblock hunt and ordering the numbers.  Some of us decided to carry on the number sequence and used the numberlines to write higher ones.  We have been reading the book 'One is a snail, 10 is a crab' and using this to solve number problems, counting animals feet!  We have been making a display to show the rest of the school what we have been learning, and decided to paint our own feet for the other children to count.

Following on from the children's interests, the home corner has been transformed into a Police Station with it's very own 'Hedgehog Jail'. We have been talking about the role of Police Officers and then been taking statements from our friends.  We also had a visit from the Fire Engine, found out about the job of Fire Fighters and even had a go at using the hose.

What a busy start to the term we have had these past two weeks.  We arrived back at school to find that a witch had taken over our home corner and filled it with spell making goodies.  We enjoyed making our own spells and potions and exploring pumpkins.  We then learnt all about bonfire night and found out why we celebrate it.  We learnt about a Hindu celebration all about light too, Diwali! We made Rangoli patterns, made diya lamps and tasted some Diwali sweets.  We finished off learning about Remembrance Day and found out why people wear poppies, before taking part in lots of poppy themed activities.
