Phonics

The Department for Education now require that schools adopt a Systematic, Synthetic Phonics programme (SSP) for the teaching of phonics across the school. This programme has to meet a set of criteria in order to be validated for use in our classrooms. Click the link below to see that criteria,

We have chosen a scheme that links with the way we have been teaching phonics at Sellindge for a while. The scheme we have invested in is Twinkl Phonics. Its resources are child friendly and based around a family that the children get to know during their learning . It includes detailed lesson plans for staff to follow as well as creative and interactive resources, some of which we were already using in school. It involves the children learning the grapheme and phoneme correspondence in order to help them read and spell words. There are 6 levels of learning starting at Level 1 in Early Years and going up to Level 6 in Year 2. It’s tailored to help children perfect GPCs, pass their Year 1 Phonics Screening Checks and meet all national curriculum SPaG objectives.
