Term 2

What a busy last week we have had this term.  We made and decorated some delicious Christmas cakes to take home.  We had our class party with lots of dancing, games and even a video call from Father Christmas himself.  We had lots of fun during Elf Day where we had lots of challenges to complete to try and win the Elf Cup.  We worked so hard as a team, designing a sleigh, making a Christmas Tree, having snowball fights, helping ruldolph fly and performing in a talent show.  Our hard work paid off, as we won the cup!  Well done Hedgehogs!

This week we performed our Nativity 'Everyone Loves a Baby' to our families.  We did an amazing job, remembering all of the songs and actions and put everyone in the Christmas mood.

We had a very cold start to the week, and when we went outside we found that everything had frozen!  We explored the ice and decided to find out if we could melt the ice so we put it in different places.  We wanted to find out what else we could freeze so we set up some trays of water and natural things to see what would happen overnight.  We also talked about what animals might live in cold, icy places and moved on to thinking about animals that live in hot and cold habitats.  We have been busy getting ready for our Christmas Fayre and we wrote letters to Father Christmas.  We used the sounds we had learnt to write what we would like for Christmas.  We had lots of fun at the Fayre and won lots of prizes.

What a busy week we have had.  We have been planning our Medieval Feast.  We learnt about what life would have been like in medieval times and designed our own menu.  We made our own bread that we then turned into breadcrumbs and made a medieval recipe for no bake gingerbread.  It was really tasty.  We dressed up for our banquet as kings, princesses. ladies, knights and we even had a noble steed.  We learnt some medieval dances, played games and enjoyed our feast.  We have also been learning about Sukkot which is a Jewish Festival celebrating harvest.  We explored different fruit and vegetables.

We have been visited by Draco the Dragon this week.  He burnt one of our books with his fiery breath and even kidnapped Mr Bumbles! We decided to make some shields to protect ourselves and then went on a rescue mission to save Mr Bumbles who was stuck in the middle of a moat! We finished the week with Children in Need where we enjoyed a lunchtime disco, worked up a sweat with Joe Wicks exercises and decorated some scrumptious cupcakes, yellow and spotty!

This week we have been learning about Remembrance Day.  We made poppies to make our own wreath which we laid down for our 2 minute silence.  It was been maths week in school this week and we have been learning about circles and triangles.  We looked at the work of Wassily Kandinsky and challenged ourselves to make our art based on his abstract work.  We looked at what we could use to make circle and triangle shaped prints and even made our own triangles to print with.  We will be using these in a lovely display in the corridor.

We have had a great first week back.  Last term we were very interested in playing with our toy knights so our home corner has been turned into a medieval castle and we have a castle and knights in our small world area.  We have been planning how we can make our area even better and so far we have added drawbridges and flags to our castle.  We also made a castle in the outside area that even had it's own moat.  This week we have also learnt about Diwali and made some beautiful fireworks pictures and joined in with some dancing.  We finished the week finding out more about bonfire night and why we have fireworks then.  We made some delicious chocolate sparklers to enjoy at home.
