Term 5 – Week 5 RE Planning
This term we are going to be thinking about what it means to pray.
Learning Objective: I can make connections between what people believe about prayer and what they do when they pray.
Thinking Time
Prayers and meditation are often used for reflection. Take a minute to think about:
Have a think about the clips you’ve watched and the learning we have done this term about prayer. We have looked at what prayer is and how it helps believers and then examined Christian, Muslim and Hindu prayers and beliefs.
In this clip we hear about the importance of music to Christians:

Here 12 year old Kiasan demonstrates how he prays and how it gives him a feeling of connection to Allah and to other Muslims.
This video shows you a Hindu temple:
Activity – Design a prayer room
Think about what you have learnt this term and the clips you’ve watched today.
Can you design a prayer room for a new hospital to be used by Christians, Hindus and Muslims – and by non-religious people, for reflection. What special features would the room need in order for everyone to be able to use it? For example, it might include somewhere to wash for Muslims, some music for Christians or some ways to see gods and goddesses (murtis) for Hindus.
Think about how your room would create the right atmosphere to inspire people: how will you encourage people to be thankful, maybe with pictures of displays of great food? How will you encourage people to say sorry and ask for forgiveness? How will you encourage believers to give praise to their God ?
You could either write descriptions of your designs, or draw them.
